The wasp factory goodreads5/26/2023 ![]() Most disturbing moment: A scene involving a severely disabled child and an overheated room with poor sanitary conditions. Frank Cauldhaume is an bizarre and unforgettable narrator, but this novel isn’t for everyone, to say the least. What it’s About: An unusual and highly controversial novel, The Wasp Factory tells the grotesque and darkly humorous story of a Scottish teenager with a brother fresh out of the insane asylum and an active (and sadistic) fantasy life. Warning, some mild spoilers ahead, nothing too major. ![]() I liked (I’m not sure if ‘enjoyed’ is the right word) every single one of these novels, but my favorites are The Wasp Factory, The Butcher Boy, God’s Own Country, and The Woman Who Walked Into Doors. In the mood for some emotionally difficult reading, which might make you think about life and provide a certain measure of catharsis or might just make you throw the book out the window like Bradley Cooper in The Silver Linings Playbook? I’ve compiled a list of six of the most disturbing novels I’ve ever read, for your reading (dis)pleasure. ![]()
